"We were talking last night," Julia said, her eyes widening. Remus ignored the obvious sniggers coming from James and coughed delicately.
"By the way, Julia, these two are James and Theresa. They're in my year. James is on the Quidditch team."
Julia turned her amber stare on James.
"Quidditch," she said musingly, "first played in the first century of the second millennia AD, named for its place of origin, Queerditch Marsh. I like the Holyhead Harpies. Did you know that the word harpies translates as 'robbers', and that in early Greek mythology the harpies were depicted as beautiful winged maidens? Or that the harpies Aello, Celaeno, and Ocypete were responsible for carrying souls into the underworld to inflict punishment and torture?"
"Uh," Remus interrupted, "was there, erm, something you wanted, Julia?"
Julia blinked slowly down at Remus and ran a tongue self-consciously over her lips.
"Er, no," she said, looking slightly derailed, "no. I just wanted to say hello."
"Oh," replied Remus, feeling rather awful, "um... hello."
