Julia smiled benevolently down at Theresa.

"Oh, good," she said, "it's so nice to meet someone who knows their classics..."

"Actually," Remus hurriedly corrected, "I was dancing last night. For quite a while. With Lily, as a matter of fact. I went out for some air at the end of the night and met Julia and she started-- that is, we, er, struck up a conversation."

Julia nodded, a strange half-smile playing over her wide mouth, and then looked up, her eyes bright.

"Gwydion!" She said happily, as her enormous horned owl swooped down with the others for the daily mail delivery. The great bird landed just in front of Remus on the Gryffindor table, sweeping its wings mightily and upsetting Remus's plate and goblet into his lap. Remus looked down at the mess in his lap, then at the owl, which blinked slowly at him in a very Julia-like way, and then up at Julia, who was gazing at the owl affectionately. He let Julia bend forward to remove a small parcel from Gwydion's leg, then pointed his wand at himself and muttered "Scourgify."

"It's my birthday," Julia said vaguely, holding up the parcel. "See you," she added, and walked away with her owl on her arm.

Remus sat picking stray bits of egg from his robe. Beside him, James broke into cackles once Julia was out of earshot.

"Oo-er, Lupin," he crowed, "I think someone fancies you."

"It's certainly not the owl," Remus replied darkly. "And in any case, I think Julia's just... lonesome. I don't think anyone ever really talks to her. Why she singled me out, I don't know. I'm trying not to encourage her but, I mean... what am I supposed to do?"
